The gotta be cheapish beacuse you gotta buy tens of thousands
They have to fit a broad range of feet
The must suit a wide range of terrain types and climates
You must be able to hike, run jump, crouch, climb in them
They have to last long
And all that boils down to boots that can do anything but nothing very good.
Civi walking boots on the other hand are much more personalized for their respective wearer, terrain etc what makes them better suited for pure hiking but less as a general combat boot.
I understand ex soldiers who hike in their old boots because they are used to it. But I wouldnt recommend it for anyone else (ie. Buying brand new military boots for hiking)
