Snorkeling is good, but there are only a few spots on Oahu were the reef is healthy enough to be really beautiful, and those areas are busy enough that it doesn't really feel /out/.
So, if you want any hope of getting away from people, you have to climb a mountain that is steep enough that the challenge keeps the number of people on it down.
