Kek last winter it got down to negative 21 celsius at my work, coldest its ever been. Dont be suprised if you wake up in negative 7 at least if you are in the hills. A good tent, sleeping bag, and bed rolls are essential.

I don't know about Canadian law but the general rule of thumb is if it is private property then stay out if you don't have the owner's permission to go in.
People tend to mark their property but it's good to look up what areas are owned privately, provincialy, and federally.

Now in the states national forests are a go to camp in, and state ones very by state to state but generally want assigned camp sites used and they tend to have restrictions that should be researched before calling in them.

Start slow. Pack a camping bag and go hiking with it, just to check out the terrain around where you're at. Eat lunch out in the wild and come back. Frankly, if there aren't signs or barbed wire anywhere, then the only things stopping you from camping are the ticks, the bears, and the serial killers. If you're really worried check it out on Google Maps just to make sure it's not some guy's property. And don't ever forget bug repellant. I got bit by a tick ten years ago and have had rocky mountain spotted fever ever since - just now diagnosed.

I'm looking for a watch I can take backpacking & hiking. There are a few features I'm looking for and others I don't really care about but both are often found on "hiking" watches.

I want one that's durable, solar charging, digital compass, and altimeter. I don't need a barometer, GPS tracking, or sunrise/sunset timers however if the watch has them and is at the right price I won't say no.

Was about to recommended some variation of the Casio pro trek until I saw your budget.

Mines got a compass, barometer, altimeter, sunset/sunrise times and is a nice weight. 10/10 watch. I paid £150 for it new in London so you could probably find a bargain online.

don't know if this is even the right website but

one of my legs literally cannot hike at all, its useless and holds me back
it does about 5 miles of walking then starts to gradually build up pain. If I sit down for a long time, then that leg gets completely painful

I have an opportunity to move out of my state, I've lived in the deserts of California my while life but I never really ventured out before.

I've always loved the great outdoors, I read stories of frontiersmen and explorers all starry eyes and shit and I finally may be able to go to a state with woods, game to hunt and seasons.

Camp in your yard with "no access" to your house and make a list of what you want & need. Go from there. Then look up campsites in your area and camp there. Then, once again, go from there. Look up day hikes in your area. Camp for a day in ones that allow it. Then, shocker I know, go from there.

What I'm getting at is try it and see what you need. Google camping essentials and use common sense to filter the bullshit and figure out what works best for you. Obviously food, water, and shelter are the most important things so start there.

personal preference, the thicker the webbing is the more durable it will be obviously but really you only need a few mm of thickness i guess. Also i'm not sure how/if you would sew up the ends once you had cut said webbing. Google will be more help than I at this point sorry anon

I am going to go hiking, camping in Centra Europe ove October/November.

I bought an Outwell Dreamcatcher 7.5 as a sleeping pad. I wanted to buy a Kathmandu something that was also 7.5 cm thick and was 4 season use. However this Outwell one had no rating but I guessed it should do fine.

My question is, with a good sleeping bag will I be comfy in subzero temperature? Nothing super cold, but like -5 very very worst case scenario.

Uneducated question coming through, how do you
navigate your way through that route? Are there generally paths you can follow all the way? And are there stops all the way where you can restock on food and stuff? I live in Norway and doing something like that one summer would really be something I would consider.

It's not an actual route (as far as I know). I just drew some on a map with an estimate of how I want to walk.
I'm still tweaking the route, as of now i'm thinking I should go from the start and stop at Trondheim, before continuing down the pilgrim path towards Oslo, I'm currently trying to figure out a good path to take to get to the coast.

Yup. When I was in Iraq we got sent up north for a couple days for a mission in like October/ November. Colder than fuck at night, surprisingly.

All I had was the bivy, summer bag, and my woobie (it was in my ruck at the beginning of the night) . I woke up in the middle of the night cold as shit and stuff my woobie in my sleeping bag. Got real warm real quick.

Never used the full system together. Never wanted to have to, really.

I imagine milsurp is going to be overbuilt and extremely heavy, compared to super expensive civilian gear, but I'm not camping up everest, just wandering through local woodland.

Chafing it is called. Boxerbriefs help, some have some kind of pocket for your junk, those are the best.

Creams and powders make it worse. Separate all skin with a layer of fabric and you are fine.

If you stay out longer, wash every day and after every crapping to prevent swampass. Water and soap will do. Wet wipes do not suffice.

To be honest it depends on what you're doing.

If you're going to be doing a lot of stationary camping with not a lot of miles, take an axe or hatchet.

They weigh a fuck tonne and if you're not going to be doing multiple wood fires (instead of using gas stoves, etc.), then it'll be useful, otherwise it's going to be a waste of weight, could take half a dozen bags of doritos instead.
