Personally, it seems like a waste. You can find land for $500/acre if you look hard enough. Hell, even if you paid $3k for one acre... you could build a premium shack, drive a well, buy solar panels & batteries and do a shit ton beyond that - for less money.
I say, go for it. If it's how you want to live, then make that shit happen.
