The English language assumes a male default. It's a theoretically not-true scenario that is statistically factual, and the only people who ever get up-in-arms about it are men who pretend that, just because it doesn't HAVE to be true, it therefore isn't, necessarily, implied.
But it is implied, and everyone knows it. And the reason is "because we can read."
We don't need white-knighting on this board, and I'm not a fan of being someone who does it, even though I'm doing it right now. But we also don't need people who make white-knighting a thing that other people are capable of doing.
