>>822387This was me, attempting to help my fellow /out/ists save a buck.
The reasoning for such a silly waste of time was threefold:
> I like to think of myself as a helpful and positive participant at /out/, trying to contribute to the general good nature of the board.> I wanted to make OP aware of the fact that there was a more economical alternative to the z-rest, as his question implied that he liked the design itself, though was apprehensive due to the price point of the item he was looking into.> I like saving money, and I like the Naturehike pad. So far (<10 nights), it seems brilliant.I own and have used both the z-lite, the naturehike knockoff, several Exped mats (Downmat 7 UL M, Downmat 9 LW, Synmat S UL), a Klymit mat, some other inflatables, and a range of expensive foam mats (Gossamer Gear Thinline and Nightline, Mammut Bamse, Bergans Extreme, Helsport, inter alia), as well a many cheaper foam pads in different thicknesses and lengths. And many more throughout the years, some inflatable, some not.
The z-lite IS nice, though I have worn it out -- as you will ANY pad after a sufficient number of nights: the foam WILL compress from your weight, and sticks, stones, pine needles and glowing embers will ultimately make a mess of you most important isolating item.
If I'm completely honest, I would actually suggest to buy neither, and rather for for a half length torsopad instead, combined with your pack and/or a much thinner (approx 1/8') pad for your legs. But that is the UL-enthusiast in me.
The question -- if you can disregard the "buying [insert your nationality here]" for a second -- is this: is it illegitimate to help a fellow anon out to save a buck by suggesting a (perhaps slightly inferior) item?
When I suggest high-end gear to anons, they call me a shill -- when I don't, I'm being called a bot or a troll.
Oh, and I am Norwegian, so I'm allied with both the US and Canada, and love you both. Please be friends.
