I'm trekking to Everest Base Camp later this year, and I'm in the process of purchasing a waterproof, windproof and insulated jacket.

The Arc'teryx Atom AR is in my sights. I'm no expert though.

What is your recommendation for a jacket that's waterproof, windproof and insulated?

I've got the AR, and it isn't very windproof. I'd recommend something thicker and more waterproof. IMO you should have base layer>fleece>AR>outer for what you're doing.

Not to say the AR isn't good though, really good bit of kit

Windproof is far more important than the other 2. You don't want insulated at all as you'll be layered and have need to breathe.
How can you be considering EBC if you don't know this simple principle?

Get a cheaper softshell and then buy the Beta LT Hybrid instead- It's just a simple waterproof and windproof hardshell. It's about 50 bucks more expensive than the atom but it does what you want it do do, and is also really light and packable. I've had mine for a bit and it's genuinely my favorite jacket- if I wanna be real toasty I just layer up underneath and throw the beta on top and I'm good to go.
