Somewhere along the way they got too heavy into marketing gimmicks. The machetes are garbage and that $100 tactical knife they sell (similar to the Grylls one) is so try hard it's pathetic. They also started making some lower end folders that are junk too.
Most of their stuff is fine for the price though.
The Gerber knife in the OP is actually a really good size and shape for a camping innawood bush crafting knife etc. It's a little overkill for your average camper but it's fine.
Seriously though, about their machetes, they are truly complete pieces of shit. I would not touch with a 10 foot pole. The tang is seriously lame and will break. Read any review on them.
