Hey /out/

I'm flying out to Yellowstone on Monday to meet my parents. I'm bringing on a carry on bag and my purse only. They are not very /out/, they are staying in an RV at a campground and plan to sight see with tours or something.

I really want to go fishing, hiking, etc. I won't have any transportation or anything. How can I do /out/ stuff

you can fit a 3 day pack as carryon if you try. I used to take my 5.11 rush72 as carryon all the time.

but you should probably just enjoy the time with your parents and go do stuff with them.

Hang /out/ with your parents. They probably miss you and have planned this trip just to get to spend some time with you. I cant imagine a more douche move than ditching them.

You can fish on lake yellowstone (the giant lake), with the rivers you can only use a fly fishing rod

there are literally hikes everywhere in yellowstone, a lot of the attractions you have to walk a fair bit to get to them, and a lot have trails that branch off

A person would have to try to not hike in Yellowstone. There are trailheads all over the place and the routes range from a mile or two to some attraction like a waterfall, to dayhikes with some really great views.

This time of year the park is slammed with tourists and all the short hikes / walkways around roadside attractions will be slam full of them. They dodder back and forth, take lots of photos, jabber at each other in absurd languages...all that stuff. Best to avoid them if you can but there is shit in the park you'll never see anywhere else so they are worth suffering if this will be your only trip.

As for fishing I would recommend getting out of the park. There are loads of pull offs along the rivers and a nice lake just north of West Yellowstone that has good fishing.

I've been in Yellowstone for the last week. Enjoyed it by getting up early and taking longer day hikes. There are a ton of people in the park but 90% of them don't get a 1/2 mile from the road. Caught a few trout in the Gallatin and Lamar rivers. Was told the water was too warm in the Madison and Yellowstone.
