If you could recommend one book to someone looking to go /out/side, what would it be? Whether tutorial, guidebook, inspiration, whatever. Did reading inspire you to take up this hobby? Pic unrelated.

Going /out/ is what inspires me. In some fashion I'm always looking forward to my next /out/ing. I read survival fiction, watch documentaries, and lurk during the workweek. My work gives me 2-4 days off at a time, so I get to do overnight hikes all the time.

I'm also educating myself on self sufficiency living, as I'm approaching the time of my life where I can start saving for this.

Into the Wild is what initially inspired me, now I just watch Prinitive Technology and go on /out/ and shitpost to really hype me up to go /out/side and check my mailbox for my newest /out/ related toy I ordered off of Amazon.

Goddamn right. That or any of the novels by Gary Paulsen like Hatchet, Brian's Song etc. They're meant for juveniles but they're still a fun read. You could easily burn through Hatchet in a day while /out/.

That one book where that one guy was supposed to find some bedouins or someshit in some desert after the commie revolution and they kept doing shit like not taking any food for a two day hike through the desert because they didn"t want to bother because that's how they did it there and then.

None of those granola bars and snacking and whipsnake 90000 just fucking go where you want (but they ended up lost in the desert and the guy almost got killed by eagles and dehydration so I guess take a GPS or someshit)
