Anyone know of some good non convertible (I'm not a lesbian) quick dry style pants? I'm an aquatic biologist so I am in and out of the water a lot. I bought some Columbia resistance way ones I friggin loved and then they stopped making them... Just got a couple pairs of the Silver Ridge cargos and they just aren't the same...

Those are nice but those are more climbing. I think the OP may be looking for something like the REI Sahara which are perfect and comparable to those Columbia pants (which I have a couple of pair myself...as well as Saharas).

I have a pair of Mountain Hardware Chockstones. It was a toss up between those and the Rock Guides when I bought them. I know a some moderate cold weather guide services recommend the Rock Guides and they are nice but I love my Chockstones. They take a beating but will definitely *not* take a cramponing - second time out with them and I was going up a 50-deg diagonally using the moron method and tore a 2-inch gash in them. Luckily I was on my way out. And some heavy duty thread and my wife's sewing skills took care of the tear.

If you want heavy, get some outdoor oriented wool pants from an outfitter like Filson, LL Bean, Woolrich, or Cabelas. They'll still keep you warm if they get wet.

well. its just that cotton denim jeans are heavy, abrasive, and confining to walk or adventure-hike in (like day hiking or backpacking)

i have hiked in jeans before and they are horrible, performance-wise compared to modern adventure hiking pants.

modern adventure clothing is lightwieght, flexible, breathable, sometimes water resistant/bug-proof/uv-protective and quick drying

jeans, on the other hand, are heavy, not very stretchable (confining and restrictive) they soak up moisture fast, dont breath well, weigh a ton when wet and take forever to dry

i have been testing these for the last couple of weeks and i have to say they are quite possibly the best all "hiking" pants i have ever had.

theyre not "columbia" or "rei"

Duluth trading is mainly mens outdoor workwear kinda products and not really marketed to the mainstream "hiking" crowd but they are awesome pants for hiking!

Duluth is definittely quality stuff !!

theyre made with a "canvas" weave nylon that makes them pretty tough but still lightwieght and flexable. the gusseted crotch makes it roomy and comfortable for climbing over logs and rocks and scrambling up and over steep, uneven terrain.
