>>848168Back when I lived in Haida Gwaii, the forest behind my house had crowberries, salmonberries, salal, blueberries, Himalayan blackberries, and a few other species that grew there. There were also several species of edible fungi, & plenty of bull kelp forests to harvest from. Hell, my nana even made cakes out of lodgepole pine cambium.
This was in an area that was logged 40 years ago, so growing conditions for berries & other sun-loving plants were still pretty optimal. The old-growth forests that I've been to on the western side of the islands & near Bella Bella would probably be a bit more barren in terms of edibles, but there's a richness if you stay by the coast and know where to look.
