>>84653Been riding them for a little over 15 years.
I've owned both sport and utility, and I prefer utility. They are almost as fast as sport, and a lot more versatile. You can't pack in camping gear, an ice chest, and a rifle; and then pack OUT all that plus a deer, on a sport quad.
New is always the safest way to go, IF you can afford it (that's a biiiiiiiigggggggg IF).
Used can be a good way to save a lot of money, but the problem with buying used is that you have no idea how bad the guy who owned it before you abused it. Sure the salesman or the guy you're buying it from will tell you it was just used to putter around in the woods by a grandfather for a few years, but believe me, they all say that. You really don't know for sure.
You didn't ask about brands, but I'll put in my opinion anyway. All of the major Japanese brands are very reliable and can be highly recommended. Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki.
Polaris and Arctic Cat are made in America and are also reliable, but are also heavier than the Japanese models.
Can Am is Canadian and is a very reliable machine, but it is also quite expensive.
I would avoid any of the Chinese models, or any that don't really have a brand name. You often see these at bargain type stores for at least half the cost of one of the ones listed above. They are not reliable at all, and are hard to get parts for, maybe even impossible.
Don't know if I missed any brands, but I haven't been awake long.
