There is a big difference between survival and existing.
Survival is just staying alive until you can be rescued or return yourself to 'civilization'.
If you want to learn how to exist innawoods indefinitely, you need to study bushcraft, not survival.
Ray Mears is the man you want to watch.
Incidentally, Mears is also a more knowledgeable survivalist than Grylls or Les Stroud.
Something has to be said for the way their each respective tv shows are produced though.
Grylls and Strouds content is mainly for entertainments, mostly watched by urban plebs seeking 30 minutes of surrealist escapism. They go into very little detail, as not to bore the plebs. It's pure fantasy.
Ray Mears content is true outdoorsman patrician stuff. Teaching resource grade material. No fanciful invented or exaggerated situations.
