I wear trail runners that fit correctly, wear sock liners, smart wool socks. You can make your feet tougher by wiping them down with rubbing alcohol.

+1 for trail runners. Usually injinji toe socks or rei merino/smart wool. Almost never get blisters, but compeed is my go to if I do
