Dont see one in the cataloug. Lets have a headlamp thread.

I recently lost my Petzl headlamp, looking for a replacement.
I use it for auto repair, and camping.
I would like for it to have a green, or red LED option.

What do you use.
What do you recommend.

I have always Used Black Diamond and I like them a lot. I have the Storm now, which works great and is very bright, but also a bit heavy. If I were to get another one I'd get a lighter one.

Almost all have the red LED options, Storm has Green as well.

The last Storm I had stopped turning on after 1.5-ish years. I emailed them with pics, asking about warranty, and they mailed me a brand new headlamp for free no questions asked. Great customer service.

Also Unless you are cave exploring/spelunking I don't think you need one with the external battery pack and third strap. To each their own, and if it's your thing, thats cool, but the circular ones stay on very well and last 60 hours on full blast, 150 hrs on low. And they are way lighter and smaller.

My Petzl was nice, but it uses 3x AAA, and they only last few hours on full power.
I spend about 3 weeks out in the wilderness every year, and I have to bring like 18 spare batteries, and change them out every 3rd day.
I think switching to a lamp that uses a single rechargeable battery would be best, and I can use my solar charger to charge up spares.

it's the 3rd generation of the same headlamp that was originally released in the early 2000's.
they overhauled it for military consumers then quickly discontinued it, because it's too fucking good.

just ordered a 3rd one off ebay.

it literally does not get any more efficient than this bad boy...unless you found one that was rated for SCUBA

here's a picture of a petzl tikka xp, the original one I used to have before some fuck who ended up being a wife beater and shitty guitarist stole.

looks like yates has one for sale for $55

I use this, love the 18650 cell, on the medium light I can get 8hrs of light and its plenty of light to hike with. While in camp I can turn it down even lower. I find the 18650s do better in the cold then AAs, that very important to me

i've had the opposite experience with the tikkas. DO NOT take those things above 8kft. something about the power drain at that altitude consistently explodes the battery

I used one of those ones they sell next to batteries at the supermarket, not sure which one. It always annoyed me that you had to click through all the different shades of blinding white light to get to red.

the elite is good as backup. the lamp is not very bright. the switch only secures the lamp while in locked mode. which is annoying because there are 2-3 different modes between the 'red LED mode' and 'locked mode'.

Roomate got one at can tire for 30 bucks. Thought it was the tits at first as it appears to out perform the equally priced bd spot (except perhaps batt life) until it got a bit wet and now no longer works

My spot was put under harder conditions yet still works due to the ipx rating

I.e. they are a good budget lamp, just dint get it wet

That sucks. I have used my $35 Princeton Tec a ton in the rain and have yet to change the batteries in it yet since I bought it like 10 months ago. I don't understand why people want these super expensive lights unless they are exploring caves and need a fuckhueg battery pack on the back.

I would be down to have a rechargeable one some days, but the 3xAAA batteries are actually really light and the LED gives me more than enough light for much longer than I expected. Plus it has one easy button for Hi and Lo red and white light.

But I also think my LED MagLite gets the job done fine so I'm guessing most of these people are just gadget collectors with $300 knives they don't use.

What does a Petzl do that my HC30 can't? I love the 18650 cell, I love how the HC30 is more of a floor beam then a spot light, On the second to lowest setting you get plenty of light for hiking and it lasts like 10 hours.

sounds stupid. the plastic will melt at like 140F.

it either has bad contacts, or loose solder joints. take it apart, and inspect, or warranty it.
