How do you /out/ when living in a shit country?
I live in the Netherlands and the nature sucks here. Everything is flat and it's illegal to put down a tent. As it looks now i can only afford to do one big trip (scotland/scandinavia etc) a year. Should i just give up this hobby?

I spent the last week doing /out/ing in Galicia, northern Spain and there's plenty of cool places there. Also there's always eastern Europe.

Dude, you live in Europe. Get on a train or in your car or some shit. It's not that far. You can drive clear across your country in an afternoon.

I don't get Europeans. Any American/Australian/Canadian is fine getting in a car for a few hours. Takes that long to go interstate. Probably take a week to get to the other side of my country.

For the excuses, your problem is you're not making time for being /out/

And if you're not making time for something, it's not important to you.

I always have a trip planned, because being /out/ is what resets my stress and frustration. The act of having something to look forward to itself bring me a ton of excitement, and something to be happy about. Even if my trip is a couple months out, it's what I plan for all my vacation and all my long weekends.

Switzerland? France? Germany? You're 8 hours from the Alps. I'm 2 1/2 days from the Rockies. Closer to the Appalachians but that means crossing the US border which is more of a hassle than traveling Europe with a European passport.

Neither can I, but I do what I can when I can.

Or you could get a trekking bike and go bike trekking. Leave Amsterdam in the morning and you can be at the German border by late afternoon.

You live within an hour of a major international airport and can literally get an ICE pass to go to the alps, or the french countryside. For $600 you can go to the US and spend time in Yosemite where I've met dozens of dutch nationals, most of whom are woefully unprepared for anything but car camping and drinking. I've met more european nationals than Americans in our national parks because you lazy/smart fuckers actually have real time off. 6 weeks a year. So fuck you if you can't find the time.

Hell I've flown to your country from Chicago to go to the Amsterdam flower market over the weekend then was back at work on Monday. I just drove 9 hours and took a 3 hour 45 minute ferry to go camping for a week. Just one way. You need to appreciate what you have and there's a lot to see nearby.

No pity from North America.

That said: living in the eastern, rural part of the Netherlands is a blessing. Not much /out/ area here either, but at least people don't give a shit about you camping on their terrain.

When I was 13 or something we used to go on summercamp with the scouts. 1 day every year we had to cycle to a designated area and ask famers if we could pitch a tent on their land instead of sleeping on the camp terrain. Most of the times it was ok on the first attempt.

Also if you know what you are doing and either get friendly with the rangers, or are good at staying unnoticed, there are so many areas you can camp in.
Most fun I had was camping in a closed off to public park because my family knew the rangers.

You don't see to be knowledgable about your own outdoors.

Anyway like others said go to germany or the ardennen in belgium.
