Yes there are requirements if you want to put "bourbon" on your bottle.
51% corn distillate minimum, the other 49% is unspecified. Could be barley, wheat, whatever distills (it's probably those 2, or just wheat).
Has to be made in America, NOT just Kentucky, like some tale-spinners think.
Anything the Jack Daniels distillery puts out is classed as a Tennessee Whiskey. I think JD is the only whiskey distillery in Tennessee, too. Something about dry county...? Or they wont give out any more distilling licenses?
They do both use charred american oak barrels though. JD has a coopery on site, as they only fill their barrels once, then sell them on to other whisket houses, namely scotch and other european houses.
Uhhhh there's something about charcoal filtering or not charcoal filtering in relation to the Bourbon definition but i cant be fucked at the moment.
