>>88103bahhh anon you just gave me serious feels.
when I was a kid I lived on a 450 acre ranch in north Texas, had two rat terriers, brother and sister
I used to go romp around in the mesquite thicket that formed the back half of the property and they'd scare off snakes and cattle.
The female, Queenie, who we named after that Truman Capote story (A Christmas Memory, I believe), was ridiculously tough. Got kicked in the head by cows multiple times and was perfectly fine, save for small cuts from the edge of the hooves. Ate a cat that had died of rattlesnake bite and got poisoned herself. Got severe seizures but eventually just got over them. So tough.
He brother, Monroe was a great cowherder. He'd chase those motherfuckers fearlessly. He also could escape anything. We'd chain him up and he learned to twist the chain in such a manner it disengaged the switches or whatever and would run free.
A year after we moved into town he took to breaking out of our property and running around the neighborhood and tearing up trash. We chained him up one day and he tried to leap out of his pen and hanged himself. I went out to let him out and found him. Cried like a baby. Had that my entire childhood. It was rough.
Anyways this anon is totally correct. Rat terriers are an excellent breed to have /out/
