Everyone sit down and listen to the story of a former Scout
My father is an Eagle, OA, was my pack leader and i know he loves the Scouts, I know it kills him to see what that organization is going through with the gays and all this bullshit. He says everyone is losing sight of the purpose, which is educating and shaping young men
I was in the scouts up until 1st class when our troop had a power struggle and a few dads forced out the old troop leader, who was a bro. The senior scouts were bros, and old school scouts, but they all Eagle'd out and we were left with a dick leader and his son and his clique, who wanted more "fun"
As a scout and a tenderfoot, we went to Forestburg and our patrol as strong, We were old school, wore shorts, knee highs and smokey bear hats out in the field or red berets when we were in camp. We camped in the woods, drew provisions from the back of mess, and cooked over an open fire. We used to ridicule those who ate in the mess, camped in the cabins, and didnt take "real" merit badges. We were brotier scouts, and many of the older guys, the camp staff and Eagles loved our style. We understood the heritage of Scouting and emphasized merit badges like Orientering, Wilderness Survival, First Aid , Archery and Riflery...Not this bullshit Chess and Coin Collecting
Our patrol used to hold a Winter Camp at different sites every year, and we would aim for snow. We would camp with patrols from other troops. It was a great time, learned a lot and had a ton of fun
But as the old guys Eagle'd not many of the new guys wanted to rock the Smokeys, they wanted to go to camps with jetskis and eat inside, they didnt want to pitch a tent and chop wood for a fire. They didnt want to be Scouts, they wanted to go to a summer camp.
Im proud of my First Class, and i have it, my sash and Smokey hat hanging on the wall, because i know that i did more scouting then those guys who stayed in and Eagle'd while sleeping in A/C cabins
