That's one oft the stupidest things anyone could bring with him.
If someone of my friends would appear with a fucking sword, I would ditch his ass instantly.
If you want to be armed, bring a gun. For anything else, a knife or machete is not only easier to carry, but also just plain better. Swords aren't made to be used as tools, so don't use them as such.
If you really, really want to bring a historical weapon to satisfy your autism, take a spear. You can use it as a tool and have a chance vs dangerous animals.
It's still a stupid idea, though...
