Zone 9 here. Not sure if 9a or 9b since I'm kinda on the border between the two zones.
My house is built on top of an old seasonal river. The river doesn't exist anymore thanks to the city's expansion over the last 100 years, but it left behind deep sandy clay which has made growing anything difficult over the years. This year I finally got fed up and dug out my garden beds to about 2 feet and refilled them with a mix of manure and topsoil from a family friend's land.
Started planting the first wave my garden a couple weeks back, just put my last 2 plants in the ground 2 days ago.
-2 Tomatillo
-4 Tomatoes [1 Roma, 1 ace, 1 grape and 1 whith a name I can't remember]
-1 Armenian cucumber
-2 Common Eggplants [The big blackish purple ones, I can't remember the exact name]
-2 Japanese Eggplant
-2 Anaheim chili
-1 Bell pepper
-1 Habanero
-1 Jalapeno
-1 Fresno Chili
-1 Basil
-A few purple potatoes in a barrel
-1 Zuccini which is currently in a medium sized pot. When it gets larger I'm going to move it into a large barrel.
I planted strawberries last year inside of an old wheelbarrow and they are spreading like wiildfire. I'll probably have a lot of fruit.
I still have room for a good 7 or 9 more plants. I figure I'll plant those plots in about a month so I can stagger my harvests. Then in late July I'm going to tear out most of the first wave of plants and replant them. I should have enough time for another
I also planted some new grass, parsley, some mixed wildflowers, snapdragons, Lupines Chinese Lanterns, and some California Poppies. The grass is doing great and the mixed wildflowers are just starting to come up, but I'm waiting on the rest.
I'm also hoping to plant saffron in the fall. It should do well in my climate.
I need to get another load of dirt and some sand so I can plant the 15 Sago Palm pups I cut off my plants last year.
>>91344Last year I just scattered seeds on the ground where I had a small sprinkler spraying them. Shit grew like crazy.
