I'm curious what different types of kits you guys set up or have heard of people setting up.
People make kits for almost anything these days. I'll start

I have set up a short term (food for one day and no sleep system) survival backpack so that I can be outdoors for a little while. It doesn't matter if it's bugging out, getting home or going outdoors to do something. I'd use it if it's urban or rural. The point is I can just grab it and go be outdoors while I get from A to B or do some sort of activity without taking time to look through all my stuff and find what I need.

I don't have a hunting or fishing kit ready to go, because I'm not gonna go on a spontanous hunting trip. I have time to pack before those trips.

needs more water 1 quart is not even half a days ration!! you need 3 gallons of water in a bug out bag everything else is near meaningless if you don't have that. maybe more in hot/desert environment.

who the fuck packs a nail clipper and file (especially if you have a multitool or any other blade) and not pack enough food and water to last a few weeks?? are murricans really this dumb?

the weight is not an issue. military gear is a hell of a lot heavier. i think about 5 times heavier for grunts and they run with it. fucks up their joint for good for sure but we are not talking about mere 3 days of walking.

lose 10 kilos from your fat ass and you can easily carry it like nothing happened.

being properly hydrated for performance reasons and not taking risks is important. water is such a critical resource that if you go for it in the early stages you are easily found or captured and if it's contaminated that's bad news also.

I can understand that desertfags are big on water. But some of us live in pretty "wet" areas.

I carry a liter of water and find a water source outdoors. 3 gallons (11 liters) is just crazy for me and my situation. I don't think you should make such brazen statements about what everyone needs, because not everyone has the same needs and we don't live in the same environments.
And seriously, learn to use a map to locate water sources.

I'm looking into making one now. It can range from traditional use, to survival use, etc. For my use, it's basically the small bag I never want to go into unless I really fucking need to. I'm still working on the contents, but it will look something like this:

compass, thermal reflective blanket, needle & thread, signal mirror, gorilla tape, batteries, back-up fire starting kit, water purification tablets, $10 5x7 UL tarp, extra cordage, small fishing kit, protein bar.

Basically the stuff that can really save your ass in the worst case scenario. This type of bag, or pouch really, you keep on your belt at all times when /out/. If done right it shouldn't weigh anymore than 8oz.

you waste a lot of time for running for water from your hideout every time your little 1l canteen empties out that time might be very important to spend elsewhere until you have an established existence somewhere. in fact it's a huge waste even then.

at least pack an empty collapsible container in the 10l or larger size category!

My "bug out kit" is pretty much just my /out/ kit. Only difference is I will just throw more first aid, food, water, ammo into it. Switch out my shotgun for my AR.

All these bug out kits I see on yourube, all the shit is still brand new in the package. The ppl who are showing it off are usually 400 pounds. Should prep your body and mind before you prep a bag.

i do the same except i keep it in a handbag in the car, and when i go out i put it in a backpack with some additional stuff and more food.

alto my kit is not a real bob it's more like a 1 day waiting for rescue kit. i have assembled after we had thousands of people stuck on the road in the snowstorm for up to 16 hours with no food water or any shelter when gas ran out of their car. so this kit has mostly tools against hypothermia tools for shelter and signaling some water and minimum amount of food. for 24 hours you don't need more. but you can extend your stay because it has tools you can use to melt snow or boil water and build a more permanent shelter so theoretically it's good for up to 10 days before food becomes an issue. i plan on adding some small basic fishing kit because it weights nothing at all and can also be used for traps.

if i wanted to bug out it would look a lot different more water more food and weapons.

I also have a range bag that holds my pistols and ammo enough to throw it and my rifles in the truck for an afternoon at the range or just add em for a car camping/jeeping weekend.

I he no plans for another "bag" as I have cupboards and closets full of supplies in case of an emergency and keep enough in my truck to count as a "get home" bag even if my regular pack wasn't with me. I don't believe I'll need to bug out as I live well out of the city and don't understand why all these "prepper" fags think that leaving their well built and stocked homes for a fucking tarp in the woods is a situation that makes any sense at all.

If I were you I'd drop the pistols and replace them with an AR or other rifle, but if you're heart set on a handgun only take 1.

I get the iPod and phone b/c you don't want to burn through you battery and not be able to call people but if I were you I'd just skip it because ear phones lower your situation awareness and ambient music/bright screens give away your position.

I don't have any idea why you only brought one beer, I'd bring a 12oz of liquor because you get more for the space and weight.

Foot powder and extra socks makes sense, but you need better footware if you plan on walking anywhere far away.

The phone charge, pens and other small shit doesn't really bug me just because it weighs almost nothing is relatively small. Good call on the hygiene kit, makes a lot of sense if you're going for more than 3 days.

I'm at a loss with the crowbar and literal sword, I'd drop them. They're way to specific and really don't make sense.

Got a fishing kit for my fishing trips. Basically survival gear on a boat.

Got a hunting kit for hunting trips. Basically my hiking kit with different clothing for hunting and less food since I'll be sitting all day instead of hiking.

Got my truck kit. Truck driver so I always carry some gear in case I get stranded in a blizzard or sitting in the middle of nowhere for 6 hours while road side assistance gets to me.

You need to design your gear with a purpose, not just "shit i might or might not need every for anything"

if that purpose is bug out, then its different gear than a bag to repair your car, which is different gear than to walk home from school/work, etc.

Start with the typical stuff you take on 2-3 day over night backpacking trip. You go on 2-3 day over night back packing trips right? Then add more food, a better way to purify water, some tools, a gun and some ammo. That's pretty much what my BOB looks like.

This is one of those memes that doesn't stand up to much realistic thought. Yes, if you are getting shot at you'll go full adrenaline beast mode but you're still limited by your level of fitness. Scared shitless or not having more weight will mean you'll be slower, and if you have to drop your pack (because you can't just drop the water without rooting through everything).

I agree you have to take water, but it makes more sense to take 3 or so liters and make finding water your number 1 priority.

alright here it is backpack load based on bodyweight:

30% max load you should plan to carry.
20% light load if you want make miles.
10% ultralight load only if you are a faggot.

to me 3 gallons of water don't fit into the ultralight, but with the rest of the stuff it still fits into the 20%.

for a single day 1 gallons + gear fit into the ultralight category, so i usually pack some more stuff sweats some fruit juice, stove, etc... never really managed to reach 30% load without lots of canned food.

well i don't know where you live but it's not true here. if something really bad happens then there will be only a few sources of trustable clean water and they are pretty well known to everyone so you can expect a crowd there maybe not the kind you fancy.

and you have no idea where you gonna need your bag maybe you will not be in your comfort zone won't know shit about the area in particular where your car dies. it's a stupid risk to take.

nothing wrong with packing filters and pills you can't possible pack water to last forever. not even pills and filters will last forever but they will for a good while be fine to treat stuff like lake or stream water. nothing wrong with that.

but first 72 hours you should be able to survive sitting on your ass hiding in a ditch or on the move without stop.

my whole fishing gear pack contains about 300 hooks of all sizes, mostly in the #4-5-6-7 and up to #02 plus lures, sabiki rigs and sinkers. also line, and bank line which is about 200'of tared nylon (i think) as well as a filleting knife and a scaling tool, and crappie bait. I can grab this small pack and get gone fishing for a week without much tought. it's what I take on fishing trips and it can be broken down if I must.

the smaller hooks can be used to catch birds as well as fish. not ethical but food be food.

not to mention about the only reason other than weekend/vacation fun, that I would take it is TEOTWAWKI

I have three kits. One is my bug out bag, which kicks it at home. 2nd is my get home bag, which is more of a EDC eith extra, I also got a active shooter kot. Which involves AR, mags, pistol, body armor, Ifak, etc (I'm in law enforcement, so having the last bag is more of a must)
