look at any other species that is becoming a pest. even tree-hugging environmentalists will say culling to get the numbers down is good because
a) it lessens the impact of the pest on other members of the ecosystem and
b) it lessens the impact of overpopulation on the pest species itself
it's a win-win solution to go for a small-ish sustainable population-size, and even though forced castration might not sound philanthropic, ultimately reducing overpopulation *will* elevate human living standards, not just those of other organisms on the planet.
in my country it's illegal to feed pigeons, because not only are they little flurrying balls of parasites and diseases, they are also living in abhorrent misery.
the only reason this idea isnt more popular for homo sapiens is because it is profitable (for a very small percentage of the species) to overpopulate the earth and turn it into a misery-filled hellhole with working and consuming slaves
