nah, you wont hit shit, and you wont get close enough.
Bow/gun for small game, or even large game.
I would only use a spear for hunting boar/hog, because they can get aggressive.

This. A spear will work with something that attacks you because then you don't have to throw it (it'll take years to be semi-proficient at this) and you're in a position of power (you have a metre-long pointy stick amd height advantage)

Obviously not for bears/dears in aggro season

I spear hunt frequently on my lands. It is an absolute myth that it takes a while to become proficient- humans have been spear hunting for millenia. How long has anyone here truly practiced with a spear? I spent a few hours every day and have reasonable ability. I often times enjoy squirrel, chipmunk and the ocassional ground hog (although those you can club).

If you want to hunt small game spear is not the way to go. Your best bet is going to be leg traps.

Yes you can kill a bear with a spear. But most of the time its been done in the past with the use of bear traps...

Hitting a rabbit with a fucking pellet gun is hard mode. Hitting it with a bow is laughable mode. And spear. Nope.jpeg.
