The fire starter is your typical flint/magnesium combination. the magnesium makes it easier to get tinder going (I've done it both ways, and I'll take magnesium any day)
The leatherman provides a saw, a straight blade, a serrated blade and other tools for prying and such that can allow you to take a load off your blade and avoid breaking it.
The canteen/cup/holder all are contained within the green cover and I consider them to be a single item. This combination allows you to carry 1 quart of water. The cup and holder are still and are designed to boil water over fire. The pouch conveniently carries all of this together.
550 cord parachute cord, whatever you want to call it is light, strong, and extremely versatile, combined with duct tape can fix virtually anything.
