How do I get into /out/?

I'm a total newb when it comes to the first thing about being out for extended periods of time. Ii want to get into backpacking but I don't know the first thing about it.

Any advice?

Start with an overnight near home in good weather, and work up from there. If you fuck up on a one-night trip in summer, it'll most likely just be annoying and uncomfortable.

Start off with day hikes at first.
Pick a nice one nighter near you.
Rent/borrow some gear.
See if there's a trail or /out/ club in your area that organizes trips

this is not bad, altho i just went ahead packed some food and spent a night out 30 miles from home. it was not a problem. my biggest problem with being /out/ is i'm kind of ocd about germs and have to clean my hands every time i touch something in the woods it's a real pain in the ass cause out there everything is dirty.

I'm planning a week long solo dispersed camp soon.

Most of my camping experience has been car camping with my family or with scouts when I was a kid, and usually it was just for 2 days. I have never solo camped or been /out/ for a week away from running water. I've also never camped in the cold.

Part of me says this is stupid, but the other part of me craves this opportunity to test myself.

I'm going to spoil myself and bring quite a bit of gear on a wheeled deer cart, so it will almost be like car camping in the way that I can afford a few extra comforts I wouldn't be able to bring in a backpacking setting. (Coleman 4person tent, camp chair, possibly a small folding table, booze.)

It wont be "hardcore" or anything. I just want to have a good time for a whole week. Might meditate and play guitar.
