So I thought I would test why cotton sucks. I went up on a ridge and wore Levi's. It was 13 degrees. On the way up my pants were brushing against bushes and trees and getting wet. Then my pants froze and the front part of my thighs started to feel like they were burning.

I normally wear my Mountain Hardware pants that are nylon on the outside and fleece on the inside. I don't even need long John underwear in them cause then it gets hot.

This is a pic of coming back through the forest. It started getting dark. My legs felt like I was getting frostbite. I was stopping once in a while to do jumping jacks. What's really weird was that walking was so hard. Where I was is up about 1000 feet and it never really bothered me but my legs were giving out on me. Lucky for me the rest of the clothing I had on was my winter normal. No wonder people die when they go out in this kinda stuff unprepared.

Hell no. And my Mountain Hardware pants are a little water resistant but not much. If you put scotch guard on them they would do better. I have had them get wet before, not drenched, and your body heat keeps you warm I'm guessing because of the fleece. My second runner up pants are my Deluth firehose fleece pants. They are very toasty but I'd hate to get wet in them.
