Me and mate used to drive down a gravel track for years to go for a surf at a quite spot. Eventually the land beside the track was developed, and a gate was put at the start of the track by the developers (illegally) to stop us from going though. Naturally we just drove around the gate and continued to surf there, as we had done for years. One morning we're getting back to the car and some middle aged bloke is there telling us that we shouldn't be there, that we are waking everyone up and that we have to leave. I told the bloke that we'd been surfing there before his house was even built and before he ever dreamed of venturing to this part of coast, and that we'll continue to surf there. Naturally he didn't take that too kindly, and said he'd be calling the local council. I told him to tell the council about the illegal gate as well, and that they'd be happy to come out and remove it and make it easier for us (and many others) to come back. The prick went quite after that and didn't bother us again.

Also anything less then 25 acres isn't land. Its a plot...

And frankly I'd rather put up "private property" signs with phone number and a message that says "if you want to use this land for recreational/foraging/fishing please call first. And give whom ever I speak with a run down of what I'd like them to not do.

Instead of being a tight ass jew and going "dis is muh land nobody allowed anywhere near my container bunker filled with imitation crab meat!!"

I would rather know someone was on my land when I'm shooting and them to know where I'm shooting at and what direction lead is flying so I don't hit nobody's ass. generally as long as you aren't acting shifty and are respectful you don't generally have problems with locals. In my experience locally, mountain folks are fucking dicks and miserable people in general. Show up in your car for lunch at their diner, and they will get you in and out asap. Backpack 40 miles in during your vacation, and they are the most friendly fuckers you will meet. Bartender offering me and my friend hash cookies for free, giving us discounts, "omg anons, you're walking 50 miles?!" People just like what they like, and are dicks to anyone outside of their little world. A bit annoying to be honest, but you gotta play people to get along in this world.
