I keep my surge on my person pretty much all the time. I rarely need it through the week since i work on an office but at nights or on weekends i use it all the time, and it does a stellar job.
The pliers on a leatherman wave, charge or surge are perfect for small to meduim sized fish. The knife is easily accessable to cut line, the scissors are great for trimming up flies or roe bags.
Ill admit i dont use half the tools on my surge but the ones i do use i use alot. The 2 knives, scissors, can opener and screwdrivers all see regular use
All comes down to preference though. Some people prefer to have a pair of massive pliers incase they catch a 50" pike even when theyre fishing a pond with only bass in it
