>>921940Kinda. Despite living in an urban area, I'm right by the ocean so the sky is actually kinda dark to the east. Also in this area, it's a strip of civilization that runs N-S and only about 15mi wide. Ocean on the east and miles and miles of swamp to the west so the light pollution isn't as bad as you would expect.
It was much, much worse when I lived right outside of Chicago. You couldn't see shit there aside from Orion in the winter (if there wasn't snow on the ground). Driving from downstate IL up 57 to Chicago at night, you start to see the giant orange mass in the sky 100mi+ out and it is slightly disgusting.
CO in the mountains is nice at night. But I think the first time I really appreciated the night sky was about 4 years ago when I was moving down to FL and my 26' Penske truck broke down at 3am on the FL Turnpike somewhere east of Orlando in the middle of absolutely nowhere. I had been driving for 24hrs at that point and never knew you could actually see the Milky Way with the naked eye until that night/morning.
