You won't get shit for using it for a survival situation. But if you're considering it for that purpose, it's kinda a pointless method when compared to "fuck the river--I need to eat" dams.
If this is survivalist-silly talk, then no dude... it's not a good idea. Survivalists have this weird obsession with putting roots down in a single place, then living like hunter-gatherers. Hunter-gatherers don't live in one place. If it works, you kill your source of food super-quick. If it doesn't work, you starve to death super-quick. Fish traps aren't used, and are illegal, because they're mostly dumb.
