A decent tri- or quad-gas detector will run you well over $1k. (O2, H2S, LEL, CO).
The little disposable "canaries" are a little more affordable, anywhere from $100 to $250/ea. They're typically only one gas, and have a 2-yr life once activated.
I believe there are multi-gas disposable detectors, but for the money, you'd probably be better off just throwing a little more at it and getting something that won't sudoku in 2 years.
