>>100806>Undecided whether I want GTX linedNot worth it, IMO. I own a pair of Merrell Moab "waterproofs". They've been good work shoes, but I would much rather have gotten something with good ventilation, and faster-drying. Goretex came in handy a few times when I was out working in the mud and rain, but after a while the shoes wore out and now they take on water (at the toes and over the ankle), and then they're none too pleasant.
Especially if you're traveling, you're going to spend a lot of time in those boots, and most of it dry. You'll be happy your feet can breathe. Pack a dry pair of socks or two for if your feet do get wet.
> fuck if I can figure why anyone would need that much without a tent/bag/matThat's how I feel, too. I have a 65+15 pack that I bought when backpacking around Europe in college (inb4 quintessential middle class life experience), and I have a 32l daypack I've used for outdoor work/EDC. Wish I had something to hit in the sweet spot. The Osprey Kestrel 48 is prob what I'm gonna get. Small and light enough for EDC or quick trips, but also roomy enough to stuff in a bag and clip on a ground pad.
