Morning all!

I'm new to this board. I usually spend my time on either /b/ or /k/, but I have a question more appropriate for /out/

I live in Florida. I'm looking for a book that can help me identify eatable and medicinal plants in Florida. A foraging book, more or less. Any suggestions? It doesn't need to be exclusive to Florida as I travel to GA and TN frequently. Any ideas? Thanks guys!

no idea, but rule of thumb for eatting wild edibles, DO NOT TOUCH OR EAT ANYTHING that you arnt 110% certian is the plant you want to eat. If you have even the slightest doubt or theres a plant that looks near identicle to the plant thats poison, dont touch or eat it.

I ate something (think its fox weed or a name like that) and had to spend a few days in the hospital after being airlifted out of the bush.

Thanks for the link! I'm wanting to place something in my bag. (Hence why I asked for a book, but I can print something) I want to start doing 1 week living strictly in the woods and collecting my own food. Kind of, training. Roughing it.

Ok, well, here's some tips:
1. Take as much food as you expect to consume.
2. If you find enough wild food, don't eat it.

There isn't actually a dramatic abundance of wild food just waiting to be picked up and eaten by human beings. You are very, very, very unlikely to find enough food to to keep you filled, simply wandering around in the woods.

be careful of lambs quarters as well, they can poison you as the leaves can hold onto nitrates and large amounts of them

god dam this "guide" is stupid
never eat bulb like roots EVER, that means wild onions and plants that look like them. There are so many extremely poisonus onion like plants that you dont want to eat its better not to bother.

I'm still looking for a version of the guide in electronic format. I always have my Android with me when I'm out camping, but bringing extra books is just added weight.

Not unless Peterson makes a guide specifically for the region. I don't think they do, which sucks.

Airplane mode, the Screen Filter app (enables dimness levels below defaults), Cyanogenmod's RenderFX (creates a widget that toggles an all-red night mode by selectively turning off the green and blue pixels of your display, useful for AMOLEDs), plus spare batteries.

I've only ever gone camping for periods of around three days, or less, so I can get by with spare batteries. I'd have to think about what I'd do for longer /out/ings--probably use a hydrogen fuel cell (along the lines of a PowerTrekk), and/or a Joos Orange. Or I could just buy more batteries. I have an older Android, and spare batteries are cheap. I already have an external battery charger, so I can charge up my spares outside my Android.

When I really want to go hardcore, I also have an app called SetCPU that I use to underclock the CPU. I already have it set up to underclock at progressively aggressive levels based on battery charge, but I could always manually adjust it on the fly.
