I don't really know anything about the SAS but I'm assuming they're an elite group picked out of the regular corps who would have already gone through survival training. I don't have the book in front of me now and haven't for years, but I remember it being all sort of fire/shelter/trap type stuff which would be week one in even a basic survival course.
Seemed unlikely to me that an elite group would be at that level.
