>>941722Well the #47 is actually awesome 10% of the time, piss poor 90% of the time. I use it sort of as an exacto blade for certain work or for very specific things like cutting up fruit. It sucks at most things but what it does do, it does better than any other knife I've ever used. It has no blade play whatsoever. Absolutely solid.
However, the #14 does have a little bit of blade play. Its not 2 billion like the blade is spinning by itself somewhere out in space but its probably a 1 on a scale form 1 to 10. Its so small and has such a tiny hinge pin that it just can't stand up to anything really. I even have to be careful sharpening it for fear of pressing to hard on the blade. For this reason I just don't use it. Its so damn beautiful and I know I'll never be able to get another one that I just put in a box and leave it alone. If I used it regularly, it would develop so much blade play it would be tossed in the garbage after a few months.
Why so much hate for GEC? I think they're really high quality but you have to keep in mind the intended use of the knife.
Did you buy a lockback that sucked? GEC is known to have subpar locking knives. Their slipjoints are as good as slipjoints come. This is why all the good slipjoints are immediately bought up as soon as the next production run is finished but the lockbacks tend to stick around.
My taste in knives has changed since I bought these anyway. I no longer care about the tiny details that make a knife more refined and perfected but make it cost 3 times as much.
Ooh this ended up pretty long. I could talk about knives for a long time.
