I live in a 4plex with a crawlspace underneath. Under all my floorboards (every wall in the unit) is a 1/4 - 3/8" gap that leads directly to the crawlspace. There are house spiders and house centipedes that invade by the dozens. I've killed three in one day before. Additionally, my bed is on the floor - literally on the carpeting, as I sleep in a Japanese-style futon, and have seen them crawling across my sheets.

Both species are completely harmless and I've gotten to the point where I just smash them with my hand and leave the carcass smeared across the wall as a grim reminder to their brethren. I don't want to say no fucks were given because they do give me nightmares on a regular basis (pic related is 100% accurate)... I need to fucking move into modern housing.

The one time I did get them out, they complained the entire time about it and didn't really enjoy anything. We found some cool shit, had a gorgeous view of the valley and saw a lot of wildlife (no killer assault coyotes though...) but the entire time they pretty much made it clear they'd rather be at home, indoors. I have plenty of other stories involving those same fucktards and camping trips we took.

The sound of coyotes at night is one of the few noises in nature that lulls me to peaceful slumber. Fuck crickets and fuck cicadas. When I hear coyotes, it means that all is well with the world, and nothing abnormal is afoot in the woods, like feral pigs, bears, or bigfoots.

They're basically just legs, flimsy exoskeleton, a few organs, and fucking air. So when you hit them, they basically vaporize into dust and twitching legs.

But they're harmless and mostly eat spiders, so I don't mind them in that regard. I'm just don't care to get a look at the bigger ones.

I miss the sounds, I'm currently in a pretty urban area (bordering the rural) and all I get are crickets at night.

It's been awhile since I've gone /out/ and now that the weather is nice, I think it's time to return to something I enjoyed so greatly.

Dude, i lived in a wine cellar for nine months, and i had little black centipedes invade by the dozens every day in the rainy season and crawl up my walls at night. They stank like shit when you squashed them too, i had to keep a gatorade bottle around for their squashed bodies.

To be fair they are a danger to people, just not really a threat. A rabid coyote isn't fun, and I'd bet somebody would regret playing with a stubby tailed kitty. City people aren't the brightest when it comes to animals, like that gif with the guy being bit by a horse.

I'm an avid backpacker and outdoorsman, and suffer from debilitating arachnophobia, when in the city. For some reason, it just doesn't bother me when I'm outdoors. But if I see a spider in my house? Seriously, any kind at all brings me damn-close to tears.

This is quite common actually. I shared a house with a guy who had a similar struggle. He had done his share of backpacking and camping and shit but let a bug into the house and he'd lose it. He once asked me to remove a bee I think it was from his room and I said "its a bug, deal with it" and so he left the house entirely. I thought "there was a bug in your room so you retreat to the place where the bugs live, the outdoors".

He explained that bugs in the house were like, intruding or compromising his safe place but bugs outside were fine because they belonged there.

If this doesn't sound reasonable to someone, then its safe to assume they don't know what a phobia is because reason's got nothing to do with it anyway.

Possibly. A disoriented or starved insect might be more inclined to bite or sting. Fight or flight, and its difficult to retreat in an enclosed space.

Yup. I'm >>94757. I grew up in the desert. I had tarantulas as pets, as a kid. I have pictures of edgy, fifteen year-old me holding my rosey tarantula and the little black one I can't remember the type of. Around 24 years-old, I simply started flipping out if I saw spiders in my safe spaces.

No reason for it. I've never been hurt by a spider. I've never had any kind of traumatic experience. But when I see them indoors, I am overcome with terror. If I see massive spiderwebs when camping? I'm the one telling my wife to "calm down--it's just a spider." If I see them inside? I leave the house until she makes them not alive, any more.

Well if a coyote started lurching towards me with a foamy mouth I would either get in my truck and drive over it or shoot it, and bobcats would never let you get close enough to even think about touching them. Plus I don't think I've ever even heard of a rabid coyote around here. Only bats and maybe a possum very rarely.
