As for rods, Fenwick Eagle for $60 is nice. Shimano Sellus for the same price are ok but kinda stiff but would be decent if you run a lot of 1/2oz-1oz stuff. Berkley Lightning Rod Shocks are great for $40 (Bass Peo sells the LR Shock for $50 so tell them to price match Walmart if you buy there). Abu Vendetta for $80 are a step nicer and good all around. Bass Pro Bionic Blades are normally $80 but have been on sale for $50-$60 so that wouldn't be a bad rod at all for that price.
Tackle Warehouse might still have Abu rods on sale too. I think the Veritas rods were $80 off of $100 and the Vendettas might be on sale too. Just don't get raped on shipping.
And I recommend 6'6"-7' or possibly even a little longer depending on preference. And the President 35 is slightly larger than most medium spinning reels, so you could run a M or MH rod depending on brand, line weight, and lure weight. I have my President 30 on a 6'6" M rod with 15lb braid and my 35 on a 6'6" MH with 30lb braid. The MH rod with the 35 is pretty damn stiff tho so that one only likes >1/2oz lures but is good for heavy jigs n ripping stuff through heavy weeds.
