Also the worst of both northern and southern snakes, especially with average temps rising. Fuck snakes are legit what keeps me waiting till I move to Ireland or Alaska before living innawoods I can't stand to even watch the fuckers on youtube.
As for advice ready about forest farming and what kind of small scale homesteading you might be able to pull off. You should at least be able to keep bees, ducks (especially near moving water), a scrappy goat or two and game foul in the woods with some success.
Turkeys and guinea fowl will usually annihilate snakes on your property which is an issue in the woods and also warn against incoming raptors birds.
Most of the animals I mentioned are foragers and can be kept on a small scale without much fuss other than a dry and safe pen and winter feeding.
