if you're camping out/overnighting you've gotta plan for freezing temps at night. it can dump rain (especially this season).
depending on where you go, trails can be easy if a bit steep. off-trail (like for accessing climbs and weirder features) can be anything from strenuous to precipitous.
be very careful of local plantlife- they're slow growers- but also wear long pants/sleeves. there are several kinds of prickers, the worst of which is a bush with tentacle/whiplike branches completely covered in backward-facing thorns; deeply unpleasant on exposed skin.
bring extra water, wear sunscreen, bugs aren't really a problem, keep your eyes on your feet for both lots of loose rock and possible snakes (I never saw any of the latter).
always wash your hands before eating if you grab cracks or ledges while scrambling around; there's packrat nests and piss everywhere and in addition to garden variety gross, can carry hantavirus.
the all you can eat breakfast buffet at the red rock hotel/casino is cheap and awesome if you're a few days in and low on calories. it's well outside the strip and close to the park so you don't even have to mess with vegas issues.
