in cold weather, if you are boiling water for pasta etc. or to drink, do it just before bed and pour it into a steel/al bottle for use as a hot water bottle.
in cold weather, store your walking/next day's socks and thermals inside your sleeping bag so in the morning you can get changed into toasty garments while still in your bag.
if you can cook over fires or a sizable stove consider taking a thin wok strapped to the outside of your bag. very light, cheap, easy to wash, doesn't matter if it gets dinted, and particularly useful when cooking for a number of people or just when you want a little extra luxury in your meals.
cut the ends of pack/compression sack/accessory straps into points or on angles so you don't have a straight end. they will be much easier to thread through buckles.
