Specialized is like the Columbia of bikes-solid quality, reasonably priced. Would definitely like to upgrade to something with more personality but nobody except the most elite bike snobs will scoff at a specialized.
That said, if you're regretting spending the money you could always return it and get something off Craigslist or your local bike co-op. I found my road bike through the co-op and spent about half the price it could have gone for.
Also, older mountain bikes can be fun because of recent advancements in suspension, if you're riding mellowish trails you might appreciate a more rigid ride.
