>>990071Theres different ways to get to Kilpisjärvi. I first visited some friends in Helsinki so I took the night train to Rovaniemi (80€?) and then the post bus from there (40€) to Kilpis. Food & provisions are best bought in Finland, it is much cheaper and for this reason there is a small shopping center in Kilpis, Norwegians make the 3 hour drive to shop...
Night on the Kilpis camp ground is around 15€. I bought some dried reindeer meat, 80€ per kilo, but then it was 4-5kg before it was dried, is free range venison, tastes great and makes for a great trekking food.
From there on it is basically free as camping is allowed. To use the huts you gotta be member of the DNT (
https://www.dnt.no/ ) , that is around 90€ a year, they give you the key for the huts, a night at the hut is €15. I had terrible weather for large parts of the tour and enjoyed the huts, warm stove, dry out your gear, hot meal, warm washing water.
To get from either Abisko or Inset back to Troms you need around €40-80.
In Troms I took a **** hotel room and got horribly drunk, it must have cost a fortune, but I can't remember. If you are on a budget, it is possible to camp inside the city of Troms (not sure if legal, but one guy did camp in the huge city park, no one bothered) and live of the super market.
You can save on making your own instant meals and bring them along, tent instead of huts and hotels, and finding a clever way to get home from Abisko. Likely it is possible to get home via Kiruna, maybe there is a bus. Troms is beautiful, but more expensive then Sweden.
If you have the time you can walk on south, Nordkalotten joins the Kungsleden.
