From what I've heard, it's really big, really cold and really empty. You do your work, wear a ton of clothes and maybe go skiing every now and then.
I could see the appeal, but the bases are so absurdly far away from everywhere (except for New Zealand, and that's fucking far away from everything else too) that unless you're really interested in research that can't be done elsewhere, or really obsessed with cold and snow, I have a hard time seeing how it would be worth spending 24+ hours in transit to sit in an insulated box for most of your stay.
