I can take photos with heavier by hand, I'm saying it's never resulted in a good photo. I might even go as far as to say no photos taken without a tripod are ever good. But all genres of photography with long heavy lenses handheld are trash and never art.

The problem is that L-mount has garbage lenses for this camera. Nothing even approaching compact enough to really capitalize on the smaller footprint. You could use the Panasonic S5 and not meaningfully increase the size of the setup due to how large all L lenses are, and you would get an evf, mechanical shutter, a proper grip, etc. It really feels like a waste with that lens mount on it.

Get an m mount adapter, assuming you can stomach manual focus. A lot of brands have small FF lenses, Sigma and Panasonic included, but very very few are real pancakes. I don't really understand why, it's not like they can't exist as older lenses are often small enough.

The problem with that is if you're going to be manually focusing, you might as well save $1000 and get the FP instead, as you've eliminated one of the strongest reasons to buy the BF. It doesn't make any sense especially when you remember that SIGMA IS PRIMARILY A LENS MANUFACTURER they could make the lenses but choose not to, it's very frustrating. It's like the camera division is a completely separate company.

Video and autofocus speed. Every FF pancake including the EF 40mm has been an external front element focuser. These make a lot of noise, have a lot of focus breathing, and cant track a subject walking briskly towards the camera with 100% accuracy.

The lumix 40mm f3.4 is the same. Its a limit of mount depth, not sensor size. A pancake would need a sensor set further back to put lens bits inside of the camera.

M mount is pretty deep for not having a mirror and leica lenses do exploit this.

The general consensus is not hate but frustration. Like the fp and fp l, it is frustrating to get such a good camera with so many stupid limitations, such as no mech shutter, no flash mount, only one lug, no flip out screen. It's because it's a great, compact camera with many deal breakers for most photogs that it's frustrating. They could add all this stuff, bulk up a lot and still be tiny but actually be a useful camera.
