It has profiles but for some reason Base Curve is not applied by default. You have to know what you are looking for, import the module and enable it.
Also most manufacturers might have good profiles but for example my Pentax the results are abysmal. It even has noise at ISO 200! I started with Darktable back in the day and the only problem was colors being muted but noise in the processing was not. Now colors are fine but there is tons of noise somehow. I used the same old camera, K-3, and the results are noisy as fuck. It really tells a lot that the shitty included software gives better results than current Darktable.
If I had a similar problem in LR I would email the company and it would be assessed. With Darktable the dev has personal issues so anyone filing a complaint gets flak for a) using Windows or god forbid, a Mac, b) using non Arch Linux distro, c) using a camera the dev doesn't like, d) accusing of lies and smearing his work or any combination of above. So fuck him.
reddit space lel.
The thing is with paid software, even if the company is horrible like Abode, you get service. Mainly this is what you are paying for and whatever is your issue someone will work on it. If Darktable wants to compete on open-source grounds the dev need to understand that the service part is just as important as providing a working product and the service does not include his personal opinions and rants. This is my experience from the past 11 years.
Bottom line is with Darktable, if it works for you then good, use it. Free software. If not then you are fucked and you have very little chance of getting unfucked, best to go get a LR+PS subscription or buy Capture One.
