I also like to put a little kink in the film about 1/4" from the end before putting it into the reel so it stays closer to straight instead of curling. Helps a little I think. If the film catches part way through I wiggle the two sides of the reel in a sort of lapping motion which helps if the corner has caught on one of the radial bars that hold it together, better than just forcing it in. I like to round off the corners on 35mm so they go in easier, but can't do that so easy with 120 since you have to do it all in the dark.
