I also tried upgrading to silverfast 9 but it's bugged and the multi exposure setting (which can apparently help with that) is currently missing and they're working on that
in the meanwhile I also contacted plustek cause I at this point I think it's a hardware issue
pic related, just pushed the "quickscan" button on the scanner and this is what it ended up scanning
still very grainy
