I was in the process of making a servo driven thumb-joystick controlled focus assist for mine when my 3d printer died and i realised i was tired of designing shit all the time. Too much brain.
Also I'm pretty sure brief contact with water from a plumbing incident has permanently fucked its forward aluminium coating anyway, years later now i'm too afraid to properly assess.
The helicoid on the 1000mm is stiff as fuck, even regreased with teflon goo, and its a pain in the ass to use even on a tripod.
ZM-6A 500mm f6.3 - heavy but best... ive shot this fucker after dusk and it's still do-able.
Tamron Adaptall2 SP 500mm f8 mirror 55BB - light and tiny, eeeeeasy to turn the helicoid, although long throw, but full sun only; small diameter means it blacks out in anything but max light.
